Jim Coffey of Redding, CT poses happily with his new 2013 Mustang that he won in the Kent Memorial Library’s 2015 car raffle.

Press Release 10/28/15 (Kent, Connecticut) – On Sunday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. the winning raffle ticket for this year’s  2013 Mustang was drawn. The winner is Jim Coffey of Redding, CT with ticket #0981.

Mr. Coffey bought one ticket for $10.00 at the Kent Sidewalk Sale Days in August. This is the second car he has won. He won his first car 36 years ago at a local grocery store, where he bought one ticket for $1.00. He won a Ford Fairlane. He sold it.

When Rudy Molho, Kent Memorial Library Board Member and Coordinator of the Car Raffle called him from the Pumpkin Run raffle drawing with the winning ticket, Mr. Coffey had a party going at his house. He almost didn’t answer the call, but did and thought one of his son’s friends was playing a joke on him. He was so surprised he had to sit down and process the information and tell his wife.

Mr. and Mrs. Coffey have two older model cars and only a two-car garage. He would like to enjoy the 2013 Mustang and is not sure whether or not he will keep it and sell one of the older cars. The Coffeys have two sons and two grandchildren. One of his sons thinks the Mustang will increase in value and urges his Father to hold onto it. His 16-year-old Grandson, who is just getting his license, also has his eye on the car!

Mr. Coffey never owned a Ford before, but his first car when he was single was a Chevy 2 white convertible sports car.

When asked what brought him to Kent, Mr. Coffey said his Mother used to live at the Morningstar facility and he would come up to visit her every Saturday. She is no longer there, but he said they still come to Kent occasionally, as “there is something cleansing about Kent and Litchfield, it rejuvenates the soul.”

The Kent Memorial Library launched its annual car raffle eleven years ago and has always made popular selections — classic vehicles such as a 2001 Chevy Corvette, a 1952 MG TD Roadster, a 1953 MG, a 1931 Chevy coupe and a 1967 Jaguar XK-E coupe, along with sought-after cars such as a Prius hybrid and a Mini Cooper. Proceeds go to support the Library’s operating budget and make an important contribution since the Library is responsible for raising over 70% of its annual budget.
