(Kent, Connecticut) –The Kent Memorial Library and the Kent Community Fund are excited to co-sponsor a multi-faceted workshop called Tips for Maintaining Safety in the Home. Presented by the New Milford VNA, you will learn many things about safe-proofing your home, how to avoid accidents, learn about the benefits of having a Lifeline in your home, and how to maintain safety with Body Mechanics – getting out of bed properly, walking down the stairs safely, getting up from a chair safely and tips on balance and movement, etc. This information will be useful to share or prepare for a parent, relative, friend or yourself!

“In the future the New Milford VNA will be presenting clinical/health-related workshops to educate the people of the Kent Community and funded by the Kent Community Fund, Inc. Tips for Maintaining Safety in the Home is the first of many future Kent workshops and we are delighted to use the Reading Room at the Kent Memorial Library!”said Patricia Lawrence, Nursing Advisory Committee Chair, Kent Community Fund.

The Senior Center Shuttle will offer service from the Kent Senior Center following lunch on Monday, February 25. The workshop is from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the Reading Room, Kent Memorial Library. The Kent Community Fund is a non-profit organization established in 2006 “to help individuals living in Kent meet emergency needs and to support community charitable programs serving Kent residents.” The Fund provides grants for the emergency needs of individuals and families in Kent, which are paid directly to service providers or vendors – fuel companies, utility companies, etc. The Fund is available after other sources such as fuel banks, government entitlements and special programs are utilized.

The New Milford Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, established in 1918 during the worldwide flu epidemic, is a non-profit health care agency dedicated to providing quality home care, Hospice and public health services. The home care and Hospice programs are Medicare Certified and State of Connecticut licensed. They accept Medicare, Medicare, private insurance and direct payment for services. The New Milford VNA serves Danbury, Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, New Fairfield, New Milford, Roxbury, Sherman, Southbury, Warren, Washington, and Woodbury.

The Kent Memorial Library in Kent, CT, in the scenic corner of Litchfield County, is seeking an energetic, community-oriented, and technically proficient Library Director to lead our private association library that serves the general public. The library is a popular destination on Main Street in the town of about 3,000 people. 40 hours per week plus benefits. Responsibilities include supervision of a PT staff of 8, plus coordination with the Library Board, Friends of the Library and volunteers. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of management experience with personnel issues, budgets, facility maintenance, long range planning, fundraising and implementing programs and services.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree plus preferred Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent degree), plus 5 years of public library experience, at least 3 years of supervisory experience. Salary commensurate with experience. Required: proficiency in circulation systems software, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel), Facebook, and website applications. Experience with QuickBooks desirable.

The Kent Community House, 93 North Main Street in Kent, will be transformed into a dinosaur touch museum with a myriad of museum-quality (many genuine and life-size) dinosaur fossils and other prehistoric related items. There will be a spectacular interactive presentation, a fossil dig, over 30 amazing specimens that are 10,000 to over 500 million years old, and a Dino Store.
