If you’re wondering why your electric bills are so high, now you can do something about them. Kent Memorial Library and the Kent Conservation Commission are making available to library cardholders a Kill-A-Watt device, whereby interested borrowers can calculate and measure how much “phantom” energy is being used.

Many electrical devices in your home suck up energy while plugged into sockets, even though not in use or turned on. By employing the Kill-A-Watt device, consumers can conduct an electrical energy usage audit in their own homes. Once you’ve discovered which electrical appliances are accruing kilowatt hours, i.e., costing money, you can make intelligent decisions on how to curtail this wasted energy.
The Kill-A-Watt device can be checked out of the library with your library card for one week. The Kill-A-Watt plan is one of several programs being designed by the Kent Conservation Commission to promote energy conservation and education.
