Poetry Workshop

We offer a Poetry Workshop on the third Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m. in the Reading Room. The workshop is free and open to all serious poets who want to develop their work and accept meaningful critique in a small circle of area writers. This workshop is led by author/illustrator E. Barrie Kavasch, who has published four books of poetry, her most recent volume is ShamanSongs: Life ShapeShifting Into Poetry. The group works with all forms of poetry and prose as a means to promote the writer’s voice and help each poet polish their work toward publication, if this is their goal. Bring current works to the circle to read and share.

FOR ALL AGES

A monthly Chess Club meets the third Saturday afternoon of each month from 1 – 3 PM.
The competition is open to young and old, beginners to advanced. Team combinations are encouraged — for instance, grandparent and parent-child, co-workers, friends. If someone does not have a team, he or she will be matched up at the club. Chess coaches Barrie Kavasch of Kent and Gary Schenzer of New Milford will be on hand to monitor and encourage game rules and add highlights about the history of chess, as well. The library will welcome donated chess sets. Interested gamers should sign up at the library either in person or by phone, (860) 927-3761, or by email kmlinfo@kentmemoriallibrary.com. For additional information, please call Barrie Kavasch at (203) 417-9177.
