EXHIBIT TO FEATURE FOUR STAFF MEMBERS OF KML

The Kent Memorial Library is pleased to announce a group art exhibit will be displayed in the Library’s Gallery from May 3 to June 28, 2025, titled Hidden Talents: Art by the KML Staff.

Featured in this exhibit are four staff members at KML: Bethel Carlson, Libby Mueller, Lucy C.Pierpont, and Kate Zarin.

Beth Carlson became KML’s Circulation Assistant in 2017. She is a life-long resident of Litchfield County and has been drawing and painting since childhood. A lover of nature and the scenery of the northwest corner of Connecticut, she strives to celebrate the beauty of the local landscape using oils on canvas. Her favorite subject is Lake Waramaug. Beth studied illustration at Paier College of Art in Hamden and attended workshops and classes taught by fine artists at the Washington Art Association in Washington Depot and The Wooster Community Art Center in Danbury. She also studied graphic design at Northwestern Connecticut Community College in Winsted and made a living in that field at The Litchfield County Times where she was involved with the production of many award-winning publications. She is a member of Gallery 25 in New Milford and Kent Art Association.

Libby Mueller is a Connecticut native, and has worked in a variety of library settings—academic, museum, school and public—for more than four decades. She holds BFA, MLS, and MS.Ed degrees and recently moved to Kent from Ridgefield where she and her husband Michael raised their two children. She enjoys writing and traveling to where the mountains meet the sea.

Lucy C. Pierpont joined the staff of KML in 2010 as marketing and special events director and is now currently the Library’s graphic designer. She has worked in the marketing/graphic design field ever since graduating from Hartwick College as an art major. She has created art her whole life and has had her photographs and paintings displayed in exhibits at the Mattatuck Museum, Majors Inn, Hartwick College, Oneonta Art Association, Kent Art Association, Washington Art Association, Burnham Library, Kent Memorial Library, and Flanders Nature Center. She currently works part-time with the Kent Memorial Library and the Washington Depot Office of Klemm Real Estate doing graphic design & public relations. She has studied oil with Peter Seltzer since 2021 and is currently studying life drawing with Antony Antonios. Her artwork can be viewed at lucypierpont.carrd.co. Her graphic designs for the Kent Memorial Library have been the recipient of 8 Connecticut Library Association Publicity Awards in recognition of design, marketing, and publicity created to promote a Library service or event.

Kate Zarin joined the Youth Services staff of KML in 2021 and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Library Science. A lifelong resident of Litchfield County, Kate has always been surrounded by creativity, in part thanks to her mother who is an artist. Although she majored in French and International Affairs at Skidmore College, Kate’s appreciation for art has been a constant throughout her life, despite not having a formal background in the field. Working primarily in graphite, pen, and watercolor, her artwork draws inspiration from the natural world, with subjects ranging from plants and animals to people and architecture. While her career and studies keep her busy, Kate still finds time to sketch, paint, and read whenever possible, continuing to nurture her passion for creativity.

Please join us for a reception on Saturday, May 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. To register, please call the Library, 860-927-3761 or online.
